Our Featured Dog!

Rigby is 3 year old Lhasa that came from a puppy mill with his sister, Eleanor.

UPDATE FROM FOSTER MOM: 11/10/08: Rigby has become a nice little foster in our home....he is fairly quiet and very content to sit next with us on the couch. He has started playing with a few toys and even though loud noises are still a little scary to him, he is adjusting well. His housebreaking has progressed to the stage that he can stay out with our other dogs in the house during the day and at night he sleeps in the room with us on a doggy bed. I don't think he would do well with small children, although older children could be determined on a case by case basis. He is not a high energy dog, but he does enjoy our walks in the morning with our other dogs.

He is enjoying being in a warm home, but would love to find his forever home. He follows us around in the house and while we are in the yard and loves to be petted and loved on. He wiggles when you talk to him and likes to sit in your lap. As you can see, he went to the groomers and was a very good boy!! If you think you would interested in meeting Rigby and giving him a forever home, fill out an application and we can start the process.

Hope is a little girl that came to us from KY. As you can see she is in need of some TLC. She is around a year old and is getting all the care she needs. If you think you would be interested please fill out our application and we can start the process. UPDATE FROM HER FOSTER:

Hope is a very curious, sweet and energetic Jack Russell/Beagle mix about a year old. She came to us from southern KY with a bad case of demadex mange and very little hair left.  But Hope is bouncing right back.  She has most of her hair back and just has had her last treatment for demadex.  She will be ready for her spay soon and to go to new home.

She loves to play with other dogs and people.  Due to her high energy level she would do best in a home with other dogs and children.  Hope is a door darter so a fence of some kind may be needed to contain her.

Hope loves to be out doors but she will dig and look for a way out if she becomes bored. She does not have the knack of walking on a leash yet and is not completely potty trained, but she is getting better everyday.  Up till the last two months Hope was an outside dog and was not socialized.  Hope is cage trained but her foster mom puts her in her cage, for her safety, when no one is going to be home but leaves her out at night as she does not tear anything up.

She would do well in a home with children and other dogs.

Serena is a little girl that came from an Amish puppy mill and is around 3-4 years old. The day we got her we discovered her uterus was coming out and she was rushed into emergency surgery. This is from over-breeding constantly. We have to make sure the public is aware of where their puppies are coming from. Their moms are left to suffer at these puppy mills. She is doing fine and now needs to learn that what it is like to be in a family. She would do best in a home without small children. She is a Brussels Griffon X. If you think you would be interested please fill out our application and we can start the process.

Ralphy, a chihuahua, came to us from a terrible hording situation. There were 50 dogs outside and we do not know how many on the inside. These dogs were chained up in the elements of the weather just to suffer. He is getting the TLC he needs from now on.

We also rescued this little female chihuahua from the same situation. If you think you would be interested please fill out our application and we can start the process.

Hello! My name is Puppy and I am 8 months old and 80lbs. Everyone says I am a cane corso mastiff mix. I was originally found wandering the street, starving and abandoned when I was very young. Some nice folks picked me up and took me home where I spent the summer and early fall living mostly in their fenced back yard, since their female dog didn’t like me. They really didn’t want another dog and when they decided they had to move, I had to find a rescue to take me. I was very shy at the time with strangers and when I went to be boarded in a kennel to get my vet work done before going to my rescue foster home, I didn’t like it at all!! I was very afraid. However, my new foster family showed up to get me and when they got me home, I quickly made friends with both of my foster doggie siblings, my foster parents and the small children in the family. My foster family even took me with them over the Thanksgiving holiday so I wouldn’t have to go back to that scary boarding place!. Wow, the car ride was brutal because I get car sick, but I was a very good girl. I had a great time once we got where we were going, especially since there was a young husky mix buddy to play with while I was there. I’ve since received motion sickness medication to take while I’m on car rides and it sure makes them much more fun! I’m housebroken, crate trained, do very well on a leash, like other dogs, love to play, like kids too although sometimes when the kids and I play I get really excited. On occasion, I will knock somebody over, but I don’t really mean to….I’m just a big girl! Although I’m a little shy with strangers, I’m really a nice girl and will be a great addition to someone’s family when I find my forever home. Could that home be yours? Spencer, a Pomeranian, was born 3/16/08. He is a perfect example of what happens when people choose not to alter their dogs. The end result is we have more unwanted and unaltered pets in the world that are tossed away.

He is a very sweet little guy that just needs a family of his home. He has the most amazing green eyes, everyone comments on them. He loves to just be with you and cuddle as you can see from the photos. For more adorable photos of Spencer, go to our events page and check out the Oct. 4 Moochie event.

Spencer is not bad with cats but he does bark at them. He does not chase them or anything like that - it's more like a fear. He also doesn't do well with small children. If you think you would be interested please fill out our application and we can start the process.

Tory came to us from a high kill shelter, she came to them very pregnant. She gave birth 6/23/08 to 3 puppies. After she takes care of them they are weaned she will be spayed and ready for a new home to call her own. She is a very sweet beagle mix. She just loves to be in the same room with you and loves to be loved on. If you think you would be interested please fill out our application and we can start the process.

UPDATE: Tory's puppies were born 6/23/08.
They have all been adopted. If you think you would be interested in Tory, please fill out our application and we can start the process.

Dr. Pepper (right) is a delight to have in my home, it only took four days for him to be almost completely potty trained. He gets along well with other dogs and is very playful, he even likes cats. He has a problem with really steep steps. He is not great on leash walking but this will come with time. He loves attention and praise and is good with simple commands. This is one loving little boy we also wanted to show you a picture of him with his mother Cola, yes that is his mother!!! She is smaller then him but we don't think he will get much bigger. He loves to play and just be a puppy. Dr. Pepper is one of Cola's puppies, he was born 7/01/08 and is a beagle mix. If you think you would be interested please fill out our application and we can start the process.

We just rescued SEVERAL Manchester terriers from a horrible hoarding situation gone very, very wrong. Please see the listings below and we will keep you updated on their progress. They are all currently in foster homes, learning how to love and to be a 'normal' dog.

Jolene - female 1
Update on Jolene:
Jolene came to us from a hoarding case where she was kept in a house with 40 other dogs.  She does have a few hang-ups from this but is starting to work them out very well.

Jolene has a very loving personality and loves her foster mom’s attention and sitting on her lap.  We have to be careful about the way we pet Jolene as she ducks anytime she sees a hand coming toward her.  Jolene is nervous when she gets in crowds…especially crowds with a lot of other dogs in them.  We think that maybe there where big dogs in her old home that pushed the little ones around.  Jolene also has a problem with food…we think she must have gotten very little food or had to fight for what she got in the home she was in.

Jolene is doing as well as we can expect with potty training.  She had a hard time getting the concept of what “go potty” means.  She is around four and probably never went to the bathroom outside.

Jolene lives with many foster brothers and sisters and gets along well with all of them.  She took a little while to warm up to the bigger dogs, but she is okay with them now that she understands that they do not want to hurt her.   We are not sure how Jolene will get along with children, as we have not exposed her to children yet, but the way she ducks down and hides her head when she is afraid makes her foster mom think she will take flight rather than fight if a child is hurting her.

Jackie - female 2

UPDATE from Jackie's foster mom: "LOOK AT THE EARS ON THIS BEAUTY!! meet Jackie. she came from a hoarder situation, living in horrible conditions. she had no interaction with humans other than bad interaction. she is coming around a little at a time. she is now following her foster mom around the house and wagging her tail. she will take a treat from your hand. she actually is working very well on potty training. she was afraid of the other dogs at first, but now will follow them in the yard. she loves, loves, loves her little bed. i think it is the first time she has had something soft to lay on. JACKIE will make a wonderful lap dog for some one. she wants all the love she can get. she learns very quickly .she barks now at the doorbell because of all the other dogs barking. she is a cutie. she looks older than she acts. she seems very energetic with the other dogs. small walks would suit her just fine. if you would like to meet JACKIE, PLEASE CONTACT THE WEB SITE AND SOMEONE WILL CONTACT YOU." Jackie will do best in a home without small children.

Carly - female 3

UPDATE from Carly's foster family - Carly is a very smart Manchester terrier around four years old.  She came from a hoarding case and was one of the lady’s favorites.  We can see why…she does not care a lot for men but loves a lady’s lap.  She is a Velcro dog.  You would never have to worry about her straying far. You can push her down over and over, but if she sees a lap, she just cannot resist…she has to be in it.

Carly will jump and dance when she is excited but she does not play the other dogs.  She gets along with the other dogs, but would rather snuggle with them than play.

She has made tremendous progress over the last two weeks.  She had a fear of large dogs and men but she is getting closer to her foster dad now and barking less.  She only barks at them now if they surprise her. Carly is VERY food motivated, this makes it easy for her to learn.

She had a habit of going to the potty in high places…like a bed….but she was so easy to break of it that her foster mom thinks her other bad habits will leave as soon as she feels more secure, knows that she has enough food to eat and the big dogs are not going to hurt her.

Carly does not seem like she would be good around small children.  She is not at all aggressive to people, cowls down a lot when you reach for her.  Carly would be very happy in a home with a retired person who had a lot of time to spend with her.  Carly has been in a home with cats and is okay with them.  She is okay with other dogs too once gets to know them and would do fine in a home with other animals or alone.

Simon - male (he is a Manchester terrier x)

We just discovered poor Simon is positive for heartworm. We will update you with details as we have them. Please consider making a donation to help him in his months of recovery.

UPDATE:
Simon has tested positive for heartworm and started his treatment 09/25/08. Simon is a very loving little guy, he loves to just sit with you on the couch and cuddle. He stays in his crate very well or will cuddle in bed with you. He gets along well with the cats and dogs in the house. He just loves being part of the family. This little guy is a mix of Rat Terrier and unknown, he was the only mix we took in from this case. This little one was part of a large hording/breeding gone wrong case. If you think you would be interested please fill out our application and we can start the process.

SASHA: It was a dark and stormy night…..Okay, we don’t know if it was stormy, but it was a dark and scary night when Sasha’s owners dumped her in a “drop box” in a northern Ohio shelter. Try to picture this loyal companion picked up by the person she trusts most in the world, a wooden flap pushes inward and she finds herself dropped into a dark shed, cold, lonely and abandoned by her person.

Sasha is one of the lucky ones, a dedicated volunteer spotted her and a plea to get her to safety went out to the rescue world. The good folks of Columbus Top Dogs sponsored her release and a few legs of a transport brought her to Dayton where she is being fostered waiting for the family that will fall in love with her and provide her a loving, permanent home, never to be abandoned in the dark again.

Sasha is 4 years old and we believe she originally came from a puppy mill. A few years ago the folks at Columbus Top Dogs rescued a
German Shepherd from a dog auction. Oddly enough, that shepherd also bore the name Sasha and had the same defective jaw as this new Sasha. The veterinarians believe this is a genetic defect and it is scary to think that somewhere in northern Ohio there is a puppy mill passing this defect from mother to puppies. Sasha will be spayed and have her teeth cleaned prior to adoption. Her jaw cannot be “fixed”, she will carry this defective condition as a reminder to all who meet her of the horrors of the puppy mills. She will love you despite your quirky human “defects” and deserves the same in return. Sasha is housebroken, has adjusted well to a multiple dog/cat home and is friendly to everyone she meets. No dog bowl required – Sasha eats her breakfast and dinner from a plate. She is a very special girl, if you believe you are the special person to provide her a forever home, please contact us. If you think you would be interested please fill out our application and we can start the process.

Peanut - Dachshund -
Peanut came from a puppy mill and was born in 2006. Peanut is such a happy boy to have come from a puppy mill. He gets along with other dogs and could care less about the cats. When you pick him up he is still afraid you might hurt him and you can tell someone has handled him harshly. He is not aggressive at all but would do best in a home with no small children. If you think you would be interested please fill out our application and we can start the process.

Eleanor (Rigby's sister - Lhasa, appx. 3 yrs. old) UPDATE FROM FOSTER MOM 12/15/08 - Ellie is a very sweet girl, very laid back but friendly. She loves the outside – runs all over the fenced back yard, plays in the leaves and other dogs. She gets along well with other dogs no matter what size they are. She is very patient and waits her turn to be loved on and petted. She is a good eater and does very good at bath time. However, she does like to chew on toys and will chew on electric wires so you have to be careful and give her plenty of hard chew toys and chew sticks. She does have this one odd habit – her foster mom will let her out the kitchen door but she goes around to the breezeway door and barks to be let back in. She is a very nice dog and deserves a good forever home. Eleanor is 5 years old. She is from a puppy mill. She is now in foster care receiving the TLC she needs and deserves. If you think you would be interested please fill out our application and we can start the process.

Wilma was born 06/27/01 - she came to us from a puppy mill where she had litter after litter. She is a miniature dachshund, a small little girl. She is very sweet and we think she will come around very fast. If you think you would be interested please fill out our application and we can start the process.

Marissa - This little maltese came from a puppy mill - she only has a couple teeth and we will probably have those pulled. She is only around 5 years old but this is from having litter after litter and not having the proper nutrition. If you think you would be interested please fill out our application and we can start the process.

Betty was born 07/16/00 and is a miniature dachshund she is a very small little girl. She came to us from a puppy mill - they kept her for years even though we were told she was a bad mother and only would produce one baby at a time. She has a daughter there they would not give us that is four and has not had any babies yet but they want to keep trying!!! After this horrible start, Betty is so sweet and loves to be held and loves giving kisses. Please help the rest of her life to be wonderful. If you think you would be interested please fill out our application and we can start the process.
